Adobe Firefly adds vector-aware image-to-vector and layout-aware prompt controls

Adobe's Firefly update introduces a vector-aware conversion engine that recognizes shapes, strokes and text during image-to-vector transforms. Instead of producing a single flattened SVG, Firefly attempts to reconstruct editable layers and plausible component geometry suitable for Illustrator and XD workflows.

Alongside the conversion improvement, Firefly adds layout-aware prompt controls that let designers specify constraints—like preserving baseline grids, snapping to a 8pt system, or keeping logo proportions. This reduces iterative cleanup time when moving assets between tools or rehousing legacy raster assets into modern design systems.

Adobe said the features will be available across the Firefly ecosystem (Photoshop, Illustrator, and Express) and will be exposed via APIs so vendors in the design tooling space can integrate the conversions into their import pipelines. Customer feedback will guide priority fixes—particularly around type fidelity and edge case compound shapes.
