Adobe launches Firefly Plugins SDK and expanded on-device generative models

The Firefly Plugins SDK provides standardized hooks for layers, canvases, and export formats so plugins can call Firefly text-to-image and inpainting endpoints directly from host applications. Adobe also published a plugin marketplace approval playbook to streamline developer onboarding.

For mobile creators, Adobe released compressed Firefly model variants that run on-device for basic edits and compositing tasks. These on-device models offer offline generative fills, style transfers, and background replacement with a smaller footprint and lower latency.

Adobe highlighted interoperability with Creative Cloud, enabling cloud-assisted refinement after an initial on-device pass. They also introduced safety and watermarking controls in the SDK to help publishers comply with provenance and copyright policies.
