Adobe Photoshop Beta adds generative layer editing with conditional prompts

Generative layer editing allows designers to submit conditional instructions—like "make this dress denim texture darker while preserving highlights"—and have the model output a new layer that integrates with existing masks and blending settings. The system respects non-destructive workflows by creating editable smart layers instead of flattening results.

Adobe built safety nets to avoid unwanted hallucinations across important layers such as logos and text, and the feature includes a visual diff mode to compare generated changes with the original composition. The generative engine supports iterative refinement via follow-up prompts and sliders for intensity and style.

Beta participants noted faster ideation cycles and fewer manual masking chores. Adobe plans to expand model options for studio customers, including on-premise variants for sensitive brand assets and higher-resolution outputs for print work.
