Adobe Substance 3D adds AI Texture Lab for instant PBR material generation

AI Texture Lab uses generative models to create end-to-end PBR materials with albedo, normal, roughness, metallic, and ambient occlusion maps. Users can input a reference image or a hand-drawn pattern and receive tiled textures with adjustable scales, weathering presets, and LOD-friendly outputs.

The system includes a micro-detail generator that intelligently adds wear and tear consistent with material type and a trim-sheet composer that lays out repeated surface elements suitable for real-time engines. Outputs are packaged with metadata for engine import, including recommended shader settings for Unreal and Unity.

Adobe aimed AI Texture Lab at studios and solo artists who need to accelerate asset creation without compromising visual fidelity. The feature will be available inside Substance 3D Painter and Designer, with export presets tailored to common production pipelines.
