Adobe Substance 4 adds parametric materials and AI-driven UV repair for real-time pipelines
Gaming · 6 min read
Substance 4's parametric materials let artists define high-level constraints that generate multiple texture variations—ageing, wear, and weathering—while retaining artist controls for key pivots. This reduces manual texture authoring and supports faster iteration for environmental art.
A notable addition is the AI-powered UV repair tool: it analyzes texture intent, repairs seams, and suggests optimal packing for multiple LODs, producing game-ready atlas exports. The tool reports estimated VRAM and draw cost, helping artists optimize for consoles and mobile.
Adobe also improved exporter presets for Unity, Unreal and Apple AR formats, and introduced per-asset provenance metadata compatible with Creative Cloud, making it easier to track sources and generative steps through the production pipeline.
