Adobe unveils Firefly Studio plugin for vector-to-photo and design-aware upscaling
Tech · 4 min read
Firefly Studio lets designers select vector groups and generate photoreal layers that match the vector's layout and color attributes. The plugin includes a "materialize" tool that translates flat fills into textured surfaces — fabric, metal, glass — while preserving masks and clipping paths.
A notable capability is design-aware upscaling: Firefly Studio analyzes component structure and selectively increases detail where needed (product surfaces, text) while keeping background or negative space clean. Adobe claims this reduces artifacts common in naive upscaling pipelines.
Privacy and asset control were emphasized: generated assets are output as editable Photoshop layers or SVG fallbacks, and organizations can disable cloud generation to keep imagery on-premise. Designers testing the plugin praised its smooth integration, though some noted occasional mismatches in complex masking scenarios that require manual fixes.
