Adobe updates XD with Generative Layouts and Token-aware Components
Design · 5 min read
Adobe XD's latest update introduces Generative Layouts, a capability that analyzes a selected artboard and proposes multiple responsive compositions based on content hierarchy and design-system tokens. Designers can request variations for different breakpoints, device constraints, or accessibility settings.
Generative Layouts are token-aware: generated variants respect color, spacing, and type tokens from a linked design system so that the outputs are production-ready and consistent with brand guidelines. Adobe also added a 'token audit trail' so teams can trace which generated changes require token updates.
The company highlights improved handoff to engineering by producing annotated spec sheets and exportable component code snippets. Early users report that page-level ideation cycles have shortened, though senior designers advise using the feature as a starting point rather than a final layout.
