Adobe XD introduces Live Tokens: dynamic design variables for production apps

Adobe XD launched Live Tokens, a dynamic token system that connects design variables in prototypes to upstream production sources like CSS variables, design system APIs, or remote token services. When a token changes in production, XD can optionally refresh linked prototypes to reflect the update.

Live Tokens support token versioning and approval workflows, so teams can stage token changes and preview their impact across components before acceptance. The system also exposes an API that allows engineering to push token updates and notify designers of potential breaking changes.

Adobe provided migration tools for existing libraries and emphasized compatibility with popular token formats (JSON, Style Dictionary). The feature targets organizations struggling with token drift across fast-moving product cycles.
