Adobe XD Next adds AI Layout Composer and token-aware styles

XD Next's centerpiece is the AI Layout Composer: designers type a short brief or paste a content outline and the composer generates adaptive layouts across mobile, tablet, and desktop. Generated layouts include annotated spacing, component-level accessibility flags, and exportable CSS variables mapped to Adobe's token system.

Adobe also introduced token-aware styles that automatically map generated components to an organization's design tokens. Teams can lock tokens to prevent accidental overrides, and a sync layer ensures prototypes update when the design system evolves. The company emphasized compatibility with existing XD projects and better handoff support for developers.

While early reviewers praised the speed of generating multiple breakpoint-ready prototypes, some raised concerns about fidelity when converting highly custom components. Adobe has promised incremental improvements and announced an enterprise beta for teams seeking on-premise control and tighter versioning with Git-based asset histories.
