Adobe XD Revamped: 'Auto Specs' Uses AI to Generate Developer-Focused Documentation

Auto Specs scans artboards and components, then produces a structured spec document with CSS snippets, token mappings, and accessibility caveats such as recommended ARIA roles and contrast checks. Designers can export specs to Git repos or developer portals directly from XD.

Adobe says the feature leverages a hybrid local/cloud inference pipeline to balance privacy and performance; sensitive projects can run the analysis entirely on-premise for enterprise customers. The feature also supports incremental updates so only changed elements get re-documented.

Initial enterprise pilots report reduced back-and-forth during handoff, but engineers urge caution over generated CSS quality and underscore the need for design system-aligned conventions. Adobe plans integrations with popular frontend frameworks to improve code quality in future releases.
