Airbnb Host Dashboard: Information Architecture Case Study
Design · 6 min read
Airbnb consolidates hosting tasks—calendar, pricing, messaging, and performance—into a dashboard that aims to be a one-stop management hub. The left-nav taxonomy groups frequent actions, but guests' cross-cutting concerns (cleaning, turnovers, special requests) often force hosts into multiple modules to complete a single workflow.
Analytics are helpful but buried: earnings breakdowns and insight cards sit behind multiple clicks, and automated pricing controls can be confusing to less-experienced hosts. Messaging is well-integrated, but templated responses lack adaptive suggestions that reflect local market quirks.
We suggest a 'task-first' redesign that surfaces next actions (upcoming check-ins, cleaning confirmations), a consolidated booking timeline, and contextual pricing explanations when the algorithm changes suggested rates. These changes would reduce cognitive overhead and streamline operations for hosts who juggle many responsibilities.
