Airbnb reworked its Instant Book flow to reduce incubation time between discovery and commitment. One major change is progressive disclosure: the platform reveals critical booking details upfront (cancellation terms, cleaning fees, and host response times) while postponing less essential legalese to confirmation screens. The design aims to speed up purchase without surprising users post-checkout.

Trust signals were augmented with micro-identity badges (verified phone + social proofs), transparent host score histograms, and prompt seller-side covenant confirmations. Hosts gained granular protections: instant book can be gated by minimum review counts or identity verifications. The UI clarifies these gating rules so guests understand why some listings aren't instantly bookable.

Payments moved to a clearer split-payment model that highlights refundable portions and service fees early in the funnel. Split-payment transparency decreased cart abandonment and improved perceived price fairness.
