Android Studio introduces live layout rendering with generative asset suggestions

The new rendering pipeline previews layout changes instantly in multiple device frames and density buckets. Android Studio now surfaces generative asset suggestions for icons, placeholder illustrations, and background patterns based on semantic layout attributes.
Designers can accept generated variants or iterate with negative prompts, then export selected assets as vector or raster assets optimized for Android's density buckets. The feature is powered by an on-device generative model with optional cloud acceleration for larger assets.
The tool also respects design system tokens and material theming, suggesting component variants that follow color, typography, and spacing rules. Google recommends design teams use the feature as a jumpstart for concepts rather than a final production source.
