Anthropic launches Claude 3o with on-device reasoning API
AI · 5 min read
Anthropic today announced Claude 3o, a compact version of its Claude family engineered for on-device reasoning and low-latency prompts. The model targets mobile and edge contexts, offering a 3-5x reduction in inference time compared with cloud-only variants while retaining core safety features.
For designers, the key addition is a new local reasoning API that allows prototypes to run user personalization logic and content filtering without sending raw data to the cloud. Anthropic also bundled ready-made UX templates and a Figma plugin that communicates with the on-device runtime over secure channels.
Early benchmarks shared by Anthropic show competitive performance on interactive tasks like intent detection and multi-turn conversational flows. The company said enterprise partners are piloting the model in accessibility tools and offline retail kiosks where data residency and responsiveness are critical.
