Anthropic Ships Claude 3 Design Mode: A Sketch-Aware Generative Engine

Anthropic today announced Claude 3 Design Mode, a new variant of its Claude family tailored for designers. The model accepts raster sketches, SVGs, and natural language prompts and returns structured UI suggestions, refined mockups, and style-consistent component trees. It also outputs accessible annotations and annotation layers to help engineering handoff.

In early tests, Claude 3 Design Mode produced responsive layout suggestions and generated component-level code snippets (React and SwiftUI) alongside image assets. Anthropic says the model was trained on licensed design systems and synthetic UI pairings to improve layout reasoning and to reduce hallucinations about component behavior.

The company is positioning the release as a bridge between ideation and handoff: it integrates with Figma via a plugin, exports to design tokens, and includes export presets for common design systems. Anthropic will offer a limited free tier for small teams and a paid enterprise plan with on-prem options and tighter data controls.
