App Store introduces AI usage disclosures and new developer review guidelines

Apple revised the App Store Review Guidelines to require apps that use generative AI to surface clear disclosures about what is generated, the model source (on-device vs. cloud), and basic provenance. Developers must also include an in-app control to let users opt out of AI-generated content where applicable.
The new rules include stricter moderation requirements for user-generated and model-generated content, particularly in categories like health, finance, and dating. Apps that publish AI-generated media must provide metadata flags that indicate generation methods and confidence levels.
Apple says the policy update is a response to developer feedback and concerns around misinformation and privacy. The company will phase in the new requirements with a grace period and provide tooling to simplify compliance.
