App Store policy tweaks require AI model provenance and on-device opt-out notices

In a document posted to their developer portal, Apple clarified that apps leveraging external AI models must disclose model source, licensing, and a short summary of training data categories. The policy also mandates a user-facing notice that describes how AI personalization is applied and an on-device toggle to opt out of personalized inferences.
Apple framed the changes as part of broader efforts to give users clarity and control, and to ensure developers respect copyright and data-use constraints. The policy gives a six-month compliance window for existing apps and immediate enforcement for new submissions.
Reactions were split: privacy advocates praised the transparency push, while some smaller developers expressed concern about the additional compliance burden. Apple announced they'll publish a checklist and example disclosure copy to help teams adapt quickly.
