Apple Arcade adds cross-save cloud API and third-party platform support
Gaming · 3 min read
The new Arcade cloud API lets developers store encrypted game state snapshots tied to a player’s Apple ID and optionally link them to external accounts or partner platforms. Apple highlighted an OAuth-style consent dialog so users can allow a specific third-party service to access their encrypted saves without giving underlying credentials.
For studios, this reduces friction when offering multi-device experiences — for example, starting play on an iPhone then continuing on a console or PC partner that participates in the interoperable save network. Apple also documented best practices for deterministic state snapshots to avoid divergence across different client builds.
Game designers noted that Apple’s API includes hooks for trophies, progression snapshots, and anti-cheat annotations, enabling more robust cross-platform leaderboards and fairness audits. The feature is being piloted with a handful of Arcade partners before broader rollout later in the year.
