Apple previews DesignKit APIs for on-device generative editing in macOS and iPadOS

DesignKit provides native blocks for image filling, type pairing and layout reflow that run on Apple silicon. Apps can use these APIs to offer context-aware suggestions—reflowing elements for different screen sizes, proposing color harmonies aligned with system appearance, and generating placeholder assets.

Apple emphasized privacy and performance: models are optimized for the Neural Engine and can operate offline, with system-level opt-in controls for data sharing. Apple also released Human Interface Guidelines updates that outline best practices for integrating generative edits while preserving user control.

The preview SDK is available to developers on the current beta and Apple invited major design tool vendors to adopt DesignKit for tighter native integration and consistent behavior across macOS and iPadOS design workflows.
