Apple tightens App Store rules for generative AI apps and adds model hosting tools

In a policy refresh rolling out this summer, Apple requires apps using generative AI to disclose model provenance, training data sources, and mitigation strategies for harmful outputs. Apps must present clear user controls for content filters and allow users to opt out of personalized model adjustments.

To support developers, Apple is offering an integrated model hosting service in App Store Connect. The service handles model signing, versioning, and per-request auditing, enabling developers to deploy models without using third-party infrastructure. Apple said hosted models must meet its safety and privacy baselines.

The policy also clarifies liability and appeals processes: apps that fail to implement required mitigations will receive remediation windows and, if unaddressed, removal. Apple framed the changes as a balance—encouraging innovation while protecting users and platform integrity.
