Arcadia Cloud introduced the ArcPad, a handheld console engineered specifically for cloud-native gaming with hardware-accelerated decoding and ultra-low-latency networking. The device supports variable refresh rates and an adaptive controller that changes layouts depending on the streamed title.
The launch coincides with a $60 million investment led by PlayFund and an edge-infrastructure consortium. Arcadia will use the capital to deploy localized edge nodes in key markets and expand its SDK so developers can optimize titles for the ArcPad experience.
Partners include several mid-size studios that will bring exclusive timed content and cloud-optimized indie games. Arcadia positions the ArcPad as an alternative to general-purpose mobile devices, promising consistent latency profiles for competitive titles while keeping manufacturing and retail costs modest.
