AtlasAI raises $80M to commercialize multimodal LLM for scientific discovery

AtlasAI, which builds multimodal models tailored for scientific workflows, announced an $80 million Series C led by BioVentures and Global Frontier Partners. The round will expand compute infrastructure and fund partnerships with academic labs and regulated industries that require traceability and data provenance.

Concurrently AtlasAI unveiled Atlas Research, a platform that layers the company's multimodal LLM over private corpora, lab images, and experimental datasets to generate hypotheses, suggest protocols, and produce reproducible experiment logs. The system emphasizes provenance: every model suggestion links back to source materials and parameter settings used to generate it.

AtlasAI's commercial pitch centers on accelerating early-stage research and reducing wasted lab work, with pilot customers in materials science and genomics reporting faster iteration on experimental conditions. The startup says it will also invest in explainability tooling and validation suites to satisfy compliance in regulated workflows.
