Aurora Play Labs Ships 'Helix' SDK for Live, AI-Driven NPCs and Closes $60M
Gaming · 5 min read
Aurora Play Labs announced Helix, a runtime and cloud orchestration SDK that lets game developers plug in stateful AI agents for NPCs with memory, goals, and emergent behavior. Helix supports both server-side and hybrid cloud-edge deployments for latency-sensitive experiences.
The launch coincides with a $60 million funding round led by GameBridge Capital, aimed at scaling Helix’s cloud infrastructure and funding strategic partnerships with mid-size studios. Investors were attracted by Helix’s architecture, which optimizes token usage through compact episodic memory and action pruning.
Early partners report Helix helped create more believable companions and background characters without requiring massive scriptwriting teams. Aurora plans to add tools for narrative designers to visualize agent decision trees and tune personalities non-programmatically.
