Autodesk releases Generative Design Assistant to align product UX and industrial design

The Generative Design Assistant lets teams specify functional constraints like button reachability, tactile affordances, and screen ergonomics while proposing both UI placements and enclosure geometry. It outputs CAD-friendly files and annotated interface mockups.

The assistant includes evaluation metrics for manufacturability and user ergonomics, and can simulate hand interactions to validate control placement. Outputs are linked so updating the enclosure geometry can prompt a suggested UI repositioning automatically.

Autodesk is marketing the tool to hardware companies and product design studios where physical and digital design must be treated together. Early pilots saw faster convergence between industrial and UI designers, but participants recommended careful param tuning to avoid unrealistic compromises between aesthetics and usability.
