Autodesk releases 'Interface Forge' to generate CAD-friendly UI panels
Tech · 5 min read
Autodesk launched Interface Forge, a tool that generates UI panels and palette layouts optimized for CAD workflows by analyzing command frequency, mouse travel, and tool grouping conventions. The output includes XML panel definitions and script bindings for AutoCAD and Fusion 360.
The underlying model was trained on plugin telemetry and UI logs to learn ergonomic placements and grouping heuristics for complex tool palettes. Interface Forge helps plugin developers reduce clutter and align panels with existing workflows.
Beta users praised the ergonomics-driven suggestions, especially for densified workflows like architectural design. Autodesk also included export options for common UI frameworks and guidance on performance budgets to ensure panels remain responsive during heavy modeling tasks.
