B2B analytics dashboard before/after: turning cluttered reports into actionable workflows

The old dashboard presented long tables and dozens of KPIs, leaving users overwhelmed and unsure what to act on. Customer interviews revealed a common pattern: stakeholders exported CSVs, did offline analysis, and then contacted account managers for next steps. The product decision was whether to double down on flexible reporting or embed action pathways directly into the UI.

Designers mapped user jobs-to-be-done and prioritized three core workflows: anomaly triage, customer segmentation, and campaign rollout. The redesign introduced a left rail of “workflows,” contextual recommendations tied to each chart, and inline actions (create segment, schedule alert, launch campaign) next to relevant metrics.

Post-launch metrics showed a 48% increase in in-app campaign launches and a 35% reduction in CSV exports. Account managers reported higher-quality inbound questions, and the product team concluded that surfacing the next logical action reduced friction substantially. The case reinforces the value of shifting dashboards from static surfaces to guided decision-makers.
