Bard for Workspace adds on-device mode and context-aware summarization
Tech ยท 4 min read
The new on-device mode enables Bard to run lightweight summarization and suggestion models locally on compatible Chromebooks and Pixel devices, reducing round trips to cloud servers for sensitive content. Admins can set policies that enforce local processing for selected document types or organizational units.
Context-aware summarization now recognizes entity relationships and design artifacts like wireframes, producing structured outputs that map action items and component references. Bard also offers a new 'design brief' template that extracts user goals, constraints, and suggested next steps from uploaded mockups or meeting transcripts.
Integration points with Google Docs and Slides are extended with comment-aware suggestions and inline rewrite modes. Google highlights enterprise controls such as activity logs, auditability for model use, and opt-out hooks for end users.
