Beacon Raises $45M Seed to Build an Offline-First Figma Competitor

Beacon's seed round was led by GreenOak Ventures and brings capital to a product that rethinks the cloud-first design paradigm. Beacon positions itself as a design tool for companies with strict data residency and IP requirements who need collaboration but can't rely on constant cloud sync or third-party hosting.

The product combines an SQLite-backed document model with peer-to-peer synchronization and optional audit logs for enterprise compliance. Beacon also touts offline vector editing, deterministic exports, and a local-first plugin model that enables designers to run third-party extensions without sending assets to remote services.

Investors cited rising demand from regulated industries—finance, healthcare, defense—where design teams need collaborative tooling that respects data boundaries. Beacon will use funds to expand engineering, publish SDKs for plugin developers, and launch an enterprise control plane for user provisioning and compliance audits.
