Before & After: NomadFit’s Mobile Onboarding Revamp That Boosted Activation

NomadFit, a health app for digital nomads, struggled with a high 80% drop-off during onboarding. The original experience asked for too much immediately: profile, goals, payment, equipment, and a long preferences form — all before showing value.

The redesign introduced a quick 3-step micro-onboarding that prioritized “get value fast”: 1) a single swipe to pick one immediate goal, 2) an optional short preferences card that could be skipped, and 3) a tailored starter workout presented immediately. The team used adaptive defaults derived from device and locale data to prefill innocuous fields and reduce friction.

A/B tests showed a 33% increase in users completing the starter workout within 24 hours and a higher 14-day retention curve. The case study emphasizes design heuristics used (progressive disclosure, priming the value, and optionality) and the importance of monitoring long-tail conversion to ensure short-term gains didn’t damage lifetime value.
