Before/After: GameStream’s subscription checkout redesign cuts churn 12% and boosts trial conversion

GameStream was losing potential subscribers at the pricing page and seeing early churn from users who didn’t understand recurring billing terms. The prior flow featured a long pricing matrix with heavy legal text and cryptic benefit descriptions. The product team hypothesized that clearer pricing, a frictionless trial, and upfront trust signals would increase conversion and reduce early cancellations.

The redesign simplified the pricing table to three tiers with clear benefit-driven headlines, added a 7-day timed trial that required a single tap to start, and moved billing details into a follow-up screen with clear reminders. Designers introduced contextual trust banners (payment security, refund policy) and a short modal that explained what happens at trial end. The team A/B tested three trial policies and two pricing presentations to isolate effects.

Results after 45 days showed a 26% increase in trial starts and a 12% reduction in churn in the first 30 days. The timed trial reduced buyer uncertainty and the transparent billing communication lowered involuntary cancellations. The team kept the simplified pricing copy and the trial model, while continuing to experiment with benefit framing for each tier to optimize long-term LTV.
