Before/After: Health Habit App Revamp Cuts Weekly Drop‑off by 28%

The original app homepage blended motivational content, articles, and a long list of goals. Users reported feeling overwhelmed and unsure what to do daily. Analytics showed users who opened the app but didn’t complete an action were 2.5x more likely to churn within a week. The team hypothesized that surfacing a single daily action would reduce decision paralysis.

In the redesign, the home feed became a modular “Today” view with one highlighted core habit, a progress ring, and a single CTA. Secondary content was moved to a “Discover” tab. Onboarding was updated to set a daily primary habit first, then optionally add secondary ones. After the relaunch, daily active actions increased by 21% and weekly drop-off decreased by 28%.

The product team learned that reducing choice and emphasizing momentum can be powerful for habit products. They also preserved discoverability by offering curated suggestions in a separate, clearly signposted area, making the tradeoff between action and exploration explicit rather than accidental.
