Before/After: Marketplace Thriftly Doubles Conversion With Listing-First Product Page
Tech · 5 min read
Thriftly’s original listing page emphasized the seller profile, verification badges, and related-seller links above the fold, under the belief that trust signals would reduce buyer hesitation. But analytics showed high scroll dropoff and low add-to-cart rates on mobile. Usability sessions revealed that transactional shoppers primarily wanted clear condition, price breakdown, and shipping information upfront.
Designers created a listing-first layout: large hero photo carousel, bold price and condition tag, one-line shipping estimate, and a prominent buy CTA fixed to the bottom of the viewport. Trust elements were preserved but moved below the primary purchase area. The team also simplified variation selection and added a concise “what’s included” summary to reduce returns anxiety.
The post-launch telemetry was immediate: mobile conversion rates roughly doubled and average time to purchase dropped by 40%. Thriftly reported fewer cart abandonments attributed to hidden fees, and support tickets about item condition dropped significantly. The team emphasizes that marketplaces should prioritize transaction-critical content and relegate supplementary trust signals to secondary positions unless research proves otherwise.
