Before/After Redesign: Beacon Bank's Mobile App Goes From Overwhelmed to Trustworthy
Tech · 6 min read
The original Beacon app presented dense dashboards, buried essential actions, and relied on heavy jargon. New users reported anxiety when first opening accounts and called support for simple tasks like deposit limits and card controls. Designers prioritized clarity, safety cues, and frictionless security to restore trust.
The redesign introduced a simplified home card showing balances, recent transactions, and two prominent actions: transfer and deposit. Security signals were made explicit with contextual explanations for biometric login and a quick-access card lock on the home screen. Microcopy focused on plain language and reversible actions, and the visual hierarchy was adjusted to reduce visual complexity.
After release, Beacon saw a 14% increase in completed account activations and a 27% decrease in support tickets for routine tasks. The team credited the success to early usability testing with first-time banking users and a phased rollout that monitored support metrics and NPS. Future iterations will test proactive nudges for underused features while keeping the core home screen minimal.
