Blender integrates AI-guided retopology and UV mapping in core release

The retopology tool uses a learned heuristic to propose cleaner, quad-dominant topology based on intended deformations and animation rig needs. The UV mapping module offers seam suggestions, packing strategies, and a prioritized texel density map so artists can focus pixel budget on visible surfaces.

Both tools expose adjustable constraints—preserve silhouette, prioritize edge loops—and produce intermediate editable results so artists can refine outputs. The Blender team added GPU-accelerated inference and background processing to keep iteration quick.

Artists reported dramatic time savings in preparing models for animation and game engines, while pipeline engineers appreciated exported metadata describing seam choices and texel allocations for runtime optimization. The Blender Foundation will continue to refine heuristics based on community feedback.
