Bootcamps Flood Junior Talent Pool, But Salary Growth Remains Slow
Tech · 4 min read
Since 2023, intensive design bootcamps have expanded their cohorts and alumni networks, accelerating placement into junior roles across tech. While this has alleviated hiring bottlenecks for volume needs, it has also created a larger pool of entry-level candidates, which keeps starting salaries relatively flat in many regions.
Employers say they now prioritize structured onboarding and apprenticeship-style programs to convert entry-level hires into productive contributors. For companies, the ROI lies not in paying a premium for raw entry talent, but in investing in training frameworks that demonstrate measurable impact within 6–12 months.
For new designers, the advice is to package portfolio work around outcomes, not just artifacts, and to seek roles with explicit mentorship, regular feedback, and clear skills milestones. Those who can show growth velocity in the first year tend to capture larger raises or faster promotion tracks compared to peers with similar starting salaries.
