Canva adds Adaptive Templates with AI-driven layout rules

Canva rolled out Adaptive Templates, a feature that automatically adapts layouts for different channels—social posts, emails, banners—based on input images, copy length, and destination constraints. The system ensures consistent brand usage by integrating with brand kits and tokenized color and typography systems.

Adaptive Templates provide suggested spacing, cropping, and hierarchy adjustments and offer alternate compositions ranked by predicted engagement for the chosen channel. Canva also added an override layer so designers can lock elements while still benefiting from auto-adaptations elsewhere on the canvas.

Design teams say the update significantly reduces manual reformatting when producing large volumes of campaign assets, though some fine-tuning is still required for nuanced brand expressions. Canva plans to extend the capability to support video and motion templates soon.
