Canva debuts Smart Layouts powered by tiny multimodal models for marketers
Design · 3 min read
Smart Layouts uses tiny multimodal networks to analyze a design's visual hierarchy, type scale, and branding tokens, then automatically adapt it to other sizes and formats. Marketers can convert a LinkedIn post into a story, banner, or print poster with maintained alignment and emphasis.
Because the models run client-side, Canva highlights reduced latency and improved privacy controls. The system also includes a 'campaign integrity' toggle that locks brand elements and enforces color palettes and fonts during automatic resizing.
Canva's user base reacted positively to the time savings for multi-channel campaigns, though designers cautioned about the need to review adjustments for typographic nuance. The company said the feature is part of a broader roadmap to make generative tools more conservative and brand-aware.
