Canva introduces BrandGuard: an AI layer that prevents off-brand generative outputs

BrandGuard checks generative outputs—images, layouts, copy—for adherence to brand rules like color palettes, logo clearance, and voice tone. If a suggestion violates constraints, the system either rewrites it to comply or surfaces a clear warning with remediation steps.

The feature supports custom legal and trademark rules that organizations can upload, allowing BrandGuard to block asset generations that might infringe on protected marks. It also integrates with approval workflows so flagged content can be routed to legal or brand managers for sign-off.

Canva positions BrandGuard as a compliance-first tool for enterprise customers producing high-volume campaigns. Designers appreciate the guardrails for reducing rework but note that overly strict rules can sometimes stifle quick creative exploration.
