Canva releases Smart Templates built on fine-tuned design models

Smart Templates take a user's brand kit—colors, fonts, image style—and automatically reflow multi-page layouts to match brand constraints. Canva's model adjusts typography hierarchy, image cropping focus, and spacing while preserving the essence of the original template.

The feature supports content-aware image replacements and suggests microcopy tailored to tone-of-voice settings. For teams, Smart Templates can bulk-generate campaign variants with different calls to action and dimension-specific optimizations for social platforms.

Canva emphasized guardrails to prevent brand drift and provided admin controls so organizations can lock certain elements. There are also exportable audit logs that show which model suggestion changed a layout and why, aiding governance for enterprise customers.
