CarbonCell raises $85M to commercialize fast-charging solid-state battery modules

CarbonCell announced an $85 million investment to accelerate commercialization of its solid-state battery modules that aim to shorten full-charge times significantly while improving safety and energy density. The funding will expand pilot lines and certification efforts with device OEMs.

The startup claims prototype cells can reach 80% charge in under 20 minutes under controlled conditions, targeting thin-and-light laptops and premium mobile devices. CarbonCell plans to offer modular packs developers can integrate into product designs with predictable thermal profiles.

Design and product teams are watching for constraints around form factor, cooling, and certification timelines. CarbonCell says developer kits and engineering support will be available for partners participating in its pilot program later this year.
