CarbonType secures $18M to expand accessible typography tooling

CarbonType announced an $18M Series A led by InclusiveVC to expand tooling that helps brands implement accessible, responsive typography at scale. The platform offers automated legibility checks, variable font transforms and CSS plugins that integrate with major design tools.

The funds will go toward building additional accessibility validators, expanding language and script support, and creating a managed service for enterprise design systems. CarbonType stressed the need for typographic systems that adapt to individual user needs, such as reduced contrast or larger metrics without breaking layout.

CarbonType also plans to launch a community-driven font marketplace for licensed, accessibility-optimized typefaces. The company expects to double its headcount this year with hires across engineering and UX research.
