Chrome 123 delivers GPU-accelerated vector font rendering and enhanced PWA tooling

Chrome 123 introduces a GPU-backed text pipeline that significantly improves rendering of variable and color fonts, reducing CPU usage for large blocks of text and complex typographic layouts. Designers should see more consistent type across platforms, especially for dynamic scaling and motion.
For PWAs, Chrome added a set of inspector features: visual manifest editors, lifecycle debugging for background sync and periodic updates, and a baseline performance profile for installability. This makes it easier for teams to polish native-like behavior and diagnose platform-specific issues.
Google also shipped enhanced media codecs and smoother frame pacing APIs to help creative apps and games deliver steady 60/120fps animations in the browser. The company encouraged web developers to test PWAs with the new inspector workflows to close the gap with native apps.
