Cobalt Studios raises $40M to publish user-generated competitive esports titles

Cobalt Studios announced a $40 million funding round to build a publishing ecosystem for user-generated competitive titles. The company provides matchmaking infrastructure, monetization templates, and tournament hosting tools so creators can focus on gameplay and community.

Cobalt's platform supports mods and user-created maps with built-in anti-cheat, replay analysis, and leaderboards. The publisher offers revenue share models and promotional support, aiming to lower the barrier for community-driven esports formats.

Initial titles in the program include arena shooters, strategy modpacks, and speedrunning challenge platforms. Cobalt will also provide grant programs for creator teams and host seasonal competitions with cash prizes to attract players and streamers.

The funding will expand live-ops capacity, developer support teams, and a streaming integration layer to help creators monetize and expose their titles to broader audiences.
