Cohere introduces DesignCopy API for microcopy and UX writing at scale
Tech · 3 min read
DesignCopy takes structured UI context — field labels, error states, character limits, and user personas — and returns ranked microcopy variants with tone-score metadata. The API is optimized for short-form content and provides suggestions that fit character constraints.
Cohere included a scoring mechanism that rates each suggestion on clarity, brevity, and brand-tone alignment, enabling automated A/B testing pipelines and quicker decision-making for content teams. Responses can be returned with localization-ready placeholders.
The company added a plug-in for popular design tools so writers and designers can generate and insert copy directly into mockups. For enterprises, Cohere offers fine-tuning to match company voice and guardrails to avoid problematic phrasing in sensitive flows.
Feedback from product writers highlighted improvements in iteration speed, though many noted a continued need for human nuance in tone-critical touchpoints. Cohere said future releases will add more granular persona controls and bias reduction techniques.
