Community releases Inclusive Typography Tokens to help scale legible systems

Inclusive Typography Tokens is a collection of preconfigured type tokens (size, line-height, grade, optical size) designed to work with variable fonts. The tokens encode accessibility-aware typographic choices: larger base sizes for body copy, higher grade adjustments for low-contrast themes, and recommended optical size settings for compact UIs. Each token comes with a rationale mapping to WCAG 3.0 legibility criteria and practical examples across breakpoints.

Beyond token values, the project supplies usage patterns for forms, data-dense tables, and small-interaction components where legibility traditionally suffers. The documentation includes guidance on building type scales that preserve rhythm across themes and on using grade and optical-size adjustments to maintain perceived weight when users switch contrast themes.

Design systems teams are already forking the resource and customizing tokens to local reading patterns and language scripts. Contributors emphasized the importance of pairing these tokens with user testing across age groups and visual abilities; typography tokens reduce friction, but inclusive outcomes still require observation and iteration.
