Consortium forms to build an open interoperable registry of accessible components

The newly formed Accessible Component Registry initiative brings together product teams from multiple companies with the Inclusive Design Coalition to create a common metadata schema, accessibility certification criteria, and a public index of components. The registry will include web and native implementations and usage guidance for localization and cognitive accessibility.

Rather than enforcing a single component implementation, the registry emphasizes semantic contracts and test fixtures. Each indexed component will come with a set of automated accessibility tests, narrative use cases, and tokenized theming instructions so teams can adopt components without losing system consistency.

The group plans to open a beta version of the registry later this year and invites contributions from smaller vendors and design systems. The consortium also promised interoperability tools to map between different token formats and to help engineering teams integrate registry entries into CI pipelines.
