DeepMind launches Sparrow-2 Lite aimed at UI assistants and policy-aware design workflows

DeepMind's new Sparrow-2 Lite is a pared-down successor to its Sparrow family focused on real-time UI assistance in design tools. The model is purpose-built for constrained environments—browser-based plugins, mobile design apps, and on-prem design servers—providing dialog, clarification, and guided suggestions without heavy compute needs.

A major differentiator is embedded policy-awareness: Sparrow-2 Lite includes constraints to avoid producing proprietary code, incorrect accessibility claims, and risky implementation instructions. Teams can further customize the model's policy layer via fine-grained policy packs that reflect company design guidelines.

DeepMind is offering Sparrow-2 Lite with a low-latency hosted API and a small-footprint runtime suitable for edge GPUs and high-end Macs. Early adopters report faster in-app help and fewer handoffs to engineering for routine clarification tasks.
