EchoPlay unveils AI director for indie game studios, raises $22M seed

EchoPlay released an AI director product that can autonomously generate branching story beats, manage scene pacing, and produce adaptive NPC dialogue tailored to player behavior. Built for indie and mid-size studios, the director integrates into common engines via plugins and provides designers with granular controls and undoable edits to preserve authorial intent.

The company also revealed a $22 million seed round co-led by Harbor Lane and Pulse Labs, with participation from several angel designers and studio founders. EchoPlay says the funding will expand model training on interactive fiction datasets, improve emotion and pacing models, and hire narrative designers to co-develop templates for popular genres such as RPGs and visual novels.

EchoPlay positions itself differently from general-purpose generative models by coupling narrative constraints and game-state awareness so the AI suggested beats are implementable by existing systems. Early testers reported significant time savings during prototyping and saw potential in live-service games for creating seasonal narratives without large writing teams.
