Epic adds Accessibility UI Library to Unreal Engine to simplify inclusive HUDs and menus
Gaming · 4 min read
The new library includes scalable UI components with tokenized typography, color contrast presets tuned for gaming displays, and an accessible input mapping system that exposes remappable actions with clear affordances. Each component ships with sample Blueprints and C++ integrations so teams working in different workflows can adopt them quickly.
Accessibility features are not only visual: the library provides hooks for adaptive narration, contextual audio cues for state changes, and helper modes that simplify complex control sets. Developers can toggle helper states that present simplified prompts, persistent on-screen hints, and single-button action mappings for key gameplay tasks.
Early adopters in indie development circles reported faster QA cycles and fewer post-launch accessibility patches. Epic says the library will be maintained alongside the engine, and community contributions are encouraged to expand language support and accessibility scenarios.
