Epic Games partners deliver HUDGen: a collaborative PS Design Lab for HUDs

HUDGen is a cloud-plus-local workflow where designers generate HUD proposals based on gameplay context, input paradigms, and performance budgets. The system produces Blueprints-compatible assets and suggestions for adaptive layouts that change depending on player preferences and device latency.

The tool emphasizes collaboration: design teams can iterate on HUD proposals inside a shared workspace, run simulated playtests, and collect telemetry that informs the model’s next suggestions. HUDGen also includes localization helpers to avoid UI truncation and guidance for button remapping and accessibility overlays.

Studios piloting the product noted improved alignment between UX and engineering, and reduced time building multiple HUD variants for different controller profiles. Sony and Epic said they plan to open a plugin marketplace for HUD templates and to publish best-practice patterns for console-friendly UI design.
